It has been several months since I moved to beautiful Stonington Borough, the most charming little village only 4 miles away from Mystic, CT and 8 miles from the Rhode Island border. The house I rented is lovely but it came furnished and the rooms were painted in a variety of colors. This post is about how I updated the interior and ‘beautified’ the exterior, hence the before and after photos. Come on in!

It’s hard to imagine but this California cottage was had all the charms of a roadside motel. Today blue-painted clapboard (which was once bad stucco), flowerbeds, arbors, and an iconic picket fence transformed the home’s exterior.
I know many of you have a fondness for French style (not just French Country) and a penchant for romantic elements.
Fortunately, French and romantic styles are made for each other. And both often meet in a variety of ways––from pristine to rustic, traditional, elegant, vintage, salvage, primitive, and more. But when it comes to the ‘romance’ part of the equation a little frill goes a long way! Think “ruffles with restraint.”
