Some photoshoots are like no others and stay imprinted on my mind forever. And such is the case of this 2013 Michigan Christmas shoot. I love it as much to day as I did then and it stills fills me with the nostalgia of simple days. I hope it speaks to you too, especially now when so much innocence is lost in the clutter and clatter of Cyber shopping.

I have a great affection for small homes and have been very lucky to be able to style hundreds of them over the years with Mark Lohman who has also photographed all my books. It always amazes me to see how resourceful and talented homeowners are. They take an ordinary house and turn it into a delightful and personal home. Case in point, Darielle Tennenbaum’s darling cottage in northern California.
It’s hard to imagine but this California cottage was had all the charms of a roadside motel. Today blue-painted clapboard (which was once bad stucco), flowerbeds, arbors, and an iconic picket fence transformed the home’s exterior.
